Overview
Fiverr is a freelance marketplace where sellers describe services as Gigs and buyers order work. The official freelancer guide covers profiles, service listings, order management and eligibility. The important business decision is whether your service can be described accurately enough for someone to order it without a lengthy discovery process.
Our assessment: a repeatable deliverable is easier to package than an open-ended promise such as “manage all my marketing.” For a video editor, one clearly defined edit with specified source footage, length and output format is easier to estimate than unlimited editing support.
Build a scope you can deliver
Write down what buyers must supply before you start. Specify the output, delivery window, revision allowance and exclusions. Distinguish correcting an error from accepting a new direction after approval. If the work depends on access, assets or decisions from the buyer, explain that dependency in the requirements.
Use samples you own or have permission to show. A sample should demonstrate the actual service, not imply that an unrelated client or brand commissioned you. Check Fiverr's allowed-service and account rules before creating a listing; do not assume every category or account arrangement is eligible.
Calculate what an order is worth
Fiverr's earnings documentation says freelancers receive 80% of the purchase amount, including extras and tips. On a hypothetical $100 order, that is $80 before other applicable costs and taxes. It is an arithmetic illustration, not a typical order value or income estimate.
Include time spent answering inquiries, collecting requirements, revising and delivering files when judging that return. Funds also pass through clearance before becoming available; check the timing and payout method shown for your account rather than relying on the order completion date as a cash date.
Test before expanding
Start with a service you can complete consistently using tools you already have. Track inquiries, orders, revision time and actual net receipts. If a package repeatedly takes longer than expected, adjust its scope or price before accepting more volume. Buying ads or subscriptions makes little sense until you understand whether the basic offer is sustainable.
