Overview
User Interviews connects researchers with potential participants. You create a profile, browse or receive study invitations, and apply to studies that fit. Researchers review applications and send participation instructions to people they select.
An application is not a booking. Keep your plans flexible until you receive confirmation, and do not describe yourself inaccurately to match a screener. A useful participant provides relevant, honest experiences rather than answers designed to please the researcher.
Read the whole commitment
Before applying, check the format, location, time zone, device requirements, duration, and any preparation or follow-up. A live conversation and a task you complete independently create different scheduling demands. A multi-stage project may require more than the session highlighted in its title.
For a remote session, test your camera, microphone, and screen-sharing setup in advance. Close private work, messages, and other tabs before sharing a screen. If a researcher asks about your employer's tools, discuss only information you are allowed to share; a research invitation does not authorize disclosure of confidential work.
Incentives are not always cash
The official payment guide distinguishes incentives distributed by User Interviews from those sent by the researcher. Platform-distributed rewards use the offered digital reward catalog; researcher-distributed incentives can take other forms. The type is shown in the study details. Confirm that it is useful to you before applying, rather than assuming you can substitute a cash payment later.
That guide also describes a standard payment window of up to 10 business days, while noting study-specific exceptions. For unmoderated tasks, the relevant date can be the task window's end or study deadline rather than your early submission date. Check the study's actual terms before concluding payment is late.
We do not publish typical hourly earnings. Include time spent on screeners, scheduling, preparation, and unsuccessful applications when judging your own results. A large incentive for one completed interview does not mean that rate is available for a full working day.
Keep a simple study record
Save the study name or ID, confirmed time, required tasks, stated incentive, who distributes it, and the expected timeline. After completing the work, check the study status and redemption instructions.
If payment is missing, follow the current support process after the applicable window. The right contact depends on who is issuing the incentive. Avoid sending identity documents or payment information to an unexpected email simply because it claims to be connected to the study.
Sources and verification
Official public documentation checked September 30, 2026:
- How participation works explains profiles, applications, and selection
- How and when incentives are paid distinguishes payment owners and reward types
- Which date starts the payment window explains session and task deadlines
This is a documentation review. We have not completed a study or tested payment, and have not verified a representative selection rate. Country and study-specific eligibility must be checked before applying.
