Overview
DoorDash offers delivery work through the Dasher app. Its pay documentation distinguishes Earn per Offer from Earn by Time. Under the first, the app shows a guaranteed minimum for an offer before acceptance. Under the second, the hourly rate covers active delivery time, from accepting an offer to completing it. It does not describe a wage for every hour you remain available. Availability and conditions should be checked in your market. Official Dasher pay guide
Pay can include base pay, eligible promotions and customer tips. DoorDash says tips it receives go to the Dashers fulfilling the order. That describes the payment model, not what a typical driver will earn locally. We do not provide a universal hourly-income estimate.
Evaluate the whole route
Before taking an offer, consider more than the drive from the restaurant to the customer. Include reaching the pickup, finding legal parking, waiting for the order, entering a building and returning to an area where you can receive another offer. A short map distance can still involve a slow pickup or several flights of stairs.
During a small initial trial, record when you start and finish, total distance, payments received and out-of-pocket costs. Keep active delivery time separate from total time spent working. That distinction is particularly important when comparing the two earning modes: a higher active-hour figure can coexist with a long unpaid gap.
Requirements and costs
DoorDash's requirements page lists identity verification and a background check, a compatible phone and age rules that vary by state. Motor-vehicle delivery requires appropriate license, registration and insurance; bike options exist in selected cities. Check the exact local requirements instead of assuming a single nationwide minimum age. Dasher requirements
Before starting, ask your insurer whether the intended delivery use is covered. Budget for fuel or charging, maintenance, phone service and suitable delivery equipment. Avoid buying a vehicle solely on the strength of promotional earnings claims.
A sensible first shift
Choose a familiar area where you understand parking and building access. Leave enough room in your schedule to finish accepted deliveries without rushing. Check payout timing and any cash-out fees before treating the app balance as immediately spendable. After several comparable sessions, decide whether the retained money justifies the time and wear involved.
