Task / session time: Variable
One accepted US delivery Uber says estimated time and distance appear before accepting each trip. No representative numerical session range was established. Signup times and illustrative app screenshots are not task-duration evidence.

Startup budget: Variable
Route-dependent operating spending remains with an existing vehicle. No defensible nationwide pre-payout USD range is published. Walking and bicycle options are separate location-dependent routes, not evidence for a blanket zero. The fuel article supports expense categories only; its expired promotion rates were not used.
Assumptions: US motor-vehicle food delivery with suitable vehicle, equipment, license, insurance and connectivity already in place; includes required fuel/charging before payout; optional purchases excluded.

Useful skills: Driving / shopping
The article describes pickup, navigation and safe food transport using locally supported cars, scooters, bicycles or walking; the tag does not imply a car is always required. These tags are not a list of mandatory qualifications or a promise of acceptance.

Overview

Uber Eats delivery requests appear in the Uber Driver app. Uber's U.S. delivery page describes cars, scooters, bicycles and walking, with availability and requirements varying by location. Before comparing it with other gig work, check which methods your city actually supports. An option shown on a national page is not proof that it is available where you live. The transport decision changes the work. A car needs suitable parking and room to carry orders; a bike needs secure storage, weather planning and a way to keep food stable. Walking delivery only makes practical sense where pickup and drop-off distances suit it. Do not buy transport equipment until the application confirms the relevant option.

Offers and earnings

Uber says an offer displays pay, pickup and drop-off information, estimated time and distance before acceptance. Its published earnings components include base fare, promotions and tips, with couriers keeping their tips. These details help evaluate a request but do not establish a dependable hourly income. Estimate the complete task: reaching the merchant, waiting, transporting the order and reaching the customer's actual door. Building access, elevators and lack of legal parking can matter as much as mileage. Leave a margin for delays rather than accepting a route that only works if every step goes perfectly.

For your own comparison, record total available time, active deliveries, distance and receipts. Subtract relevant costs before judging whether a session was worthwhile. Keep bonuses separate so the result remains useful when an incentive ends. Check whether the displayed amount and final payout differ and read the explanation in the app.

What to confirm during signup

Uber's U.S. page says requirements depend on the delivery method and that applicants must pass a background screening. It lists different minimum ages for bike/walking and motor-vehicle delivery, with state exceptions. Follow the documents requested for your location rather than a generic checklist. Current requirements and regional qualifications

For motor vehicles, confirm suitable insurance for delivery use before starting. Also review current payout options, fees and eligibility in the app. Do not budget around an advertised activation time: documentation review and account approval must finish before work is possible.

Reviewed September 30, 2026: Uber's official U.S. delivery page, covering workflow, offer information and method-specific requirements. This is a research-based guide, not a firsthand courier review. We did not activate an account, inspect a city's live offers, test cash-out or verify individual coverage. Local rules and availability require a fresh check.
