Overview
Depop is a marketplace used for selling clothing and other fashion items. For a casual seller, the decision may be whether an unwanted garment is worth photographing and shipping. For a reseller, the harder question is whether stock can be sourced, stored and sold at a worthwhile return.
Our assessment: learn the selling process with suitable items you already own before purchasing inventory. A high advertised price on another listing is not evidence that a comparable item will sell at that price or within your preferred timeframe.
Make the listing reduce uncertainty
Photograph the actual item, including labels, seams and visible wear. Measure it rather than relying only on the size label. Describe repairs, stains, missing parts and any uncertainty about materials or origin. Do not use a brand name merely because an item resembles that brand's style.
Before listing, weigh the packed item and check the available shipping method. An unexpectedly bulky parcel can erase the margin on an inexpensive sale. Decide where you will store listed stock and how you will avoid accidentally selling or discarding an item elsewhere.
Fees depend on your location and choices
Depop's seller-fee page separates selling fees, payment processing and boosted-listing charges. Country and, for some charges, listing date matter. A statement that selling fees are waived does not mean the entire transaction is free.
Calculate your expected proceeds after acquisition cost, cleaning or repair, packaging, shipping you absorb and applicable fees. Add your sourcing and handling time when deciding whether to buy more stock. Track unsold inventory too; money tied up in a cupboard is not realized profit.
Understand protection before shipping
The seller-protection policy currently limits eligibility to specified countries and qualifying shipments using Depop labels. It sets dispatch, address and transaction-value conditions. Payment outside the platform or sending to a different address can remove eligibility. Read the full current conditions rather than treating tracking alone as sufficient protection.
Keep photographs and shipment evidence, use the address on the sale record and verify payment in the app. A message or screenshot claiming payment is not the same as a completed platform transaction.
