Overview

Redbubble is a marketplace for products featuring artists' designs. Its payment documentation describes a product base price, an artist markup, and account-level charges. The base price includes marketplace and manufacturing costs, so the amount a buyer pays is not the amount the artist receives.

A print-on-demand model can be useful for testing products without ordering inventory upfront. Your contribution is still substantial: making appropriate artwork, preparing files, choosing products, writing accurate descriptions, and finding an audience.

Understand the fee layers

Redbubble's official help material reviewed September 30, 2026 describes Standard, Premium, and Pro account tiers. The published platform fee is 50% of monthly earnings for Standard, 20% for Premium, and 0% for Pro. Standard and Premium also have a separate excess-markup fee on the earnings attributable to markup above 20%, and the documentation describes a monthly account-fee cap.

Those percentages apply to specified artist earnings, not simply the customer's entire checkout total. Read the full calculation before estimating a margin. Your assigned tier, product pricing, discounts, and account charges all matter; a higher retail price does not necessarily translate into the same proportional increase in take-home earnings.

We do not publish a typical monthly income or a promise of passive earnings. Count design, upload, maintenance, and promotion time alongside money actually received. Confirm the current payout threshold and methods in your account rather than relying on an old blog post.

Choose a product, not just an upload

Inspect how a design fits each product. Small lettering may be unreadable on a sticker. A composition that works on a poster may be awkward around a shirt's neckline. Disable products that do not look intentional instead of maximizing the number of listings.

Before uploading, confirm that you have the rights needed for the artwork, fonts, photographs, and other components. Familiar characters or brand names are not automatically available for commercial use. If a license is unclear, choose a design you can substantiate rather than assuming a takedown is the only possible consequence.

A controlled first test

Start with a focused set of original designs for a clearly defined audience. Preview every enabled product and check the storefront as a buyer would. Use descriptive titles and relevant tags; unrelated popular terms do not help a shopper make a good choice.

Track views, sales, fees, and time separately. If a design gets interest but no purchases, assess product fit and pricing. If there is little interest, revise your audience or promotion plan before producing dozens of near-identical uploads.
